Side Dump Industries

Side Dump Industries manufactures side dump trailers for construction and landscape use across the United States, Canada, South America and overseas.  The original innovators of side dump technology, Side Dump Industries continues to improve upon their original design and develop new products.

The Situation

In the fall of 2007, Side Dump Industries engaged JDG to develop their brand, build awareness and increase sales traffic.

JDG’s overall objectives for Side Dump Industries were:

  • Create a brand that reflected their innovativeness, reliability, strength and professionalism.
  • Position Side Dump Industries as the experts in side dump technology and design and the best equipment choice for hard working contractors.
  • Drive more traffic to Side Dump Industries via website, phone and dealer visits.

In their efforts to meet Side Dump Industries’ objectives, JDG:

  • Created a strong, clear and memorable brand, carrying it across their logo, sales materials, DVD, trade show display, direct mail and magazine ad series.
  • Redirected their media placement from ad-only truck stop publications to national publications containing valuable information aimed at the construction and landscape business owner and decision maker.
  • Developed an ongoing public relations program utilizing press releases, editorials and articles focusing on Side Dump Industries’ strengths, design developments and product benefits.  Side Dump Industries was also placed on appropriate online informational directories.
  • Created an interactive, information-rich website complete with action videos, testimonials, news and a blog.

 

Results

Before JDG went to work for Side Dump Industries, their brand was inconsistent and unidentifiable, with multiple sources writing and designing various ads, flyers and other sales materials. Now, Side Dump Industries’ brand is strong, consistent and easily recognizable, whether you see a side dump trailer rolling past on the interstate or an ad on the web or in a construction publication.  

JDG worked with various industry media, getting Side Dump Industries’ press releases and editorial featured in Equipment World, Compact Equipment, Yard & Garden, Grading and Excavation Contractor, Total Landscape Care, PRO, Construction Superintendent, Construction Equipment Guide, My Little Salesman, Public Works, Landscape & Hardscape Construction, Site Prep, and Pit & Quarry magazines and their respective websites and e-newsletters.  

Prior to the new JDG-created website being launched in September 2008, Side Dump Industries was averaging 342 visitors per month.  In the first month of the new website being live, unique visitors jumped to 597.  In March 2009, 1,354 unique visitors viewed the site.  Despite a construction industry hit hard by the economy, Side Dump Industries has averaged over 818 visitors a month or an increase of 56% for the time period of September 2008-March 2009.  More importantly, 63.83% of their visitors are new to the site, with a large portion of the new traffic sources able to be tracked back to the various public relations efforts, directories and new Side Dump Industries media.

As a result of the brand, public relations and realigned media placement, JDG has helped Side Dump Industries experience steady sales, while other construction industry manufacturers are facing severely decreased sales, layoffs and plant shutdowns.
